Drug & alcohol usage is on the increase, it affects people as young as 14.
The average lifespan for a drug/alcohol addict is 10 years.
A large number of addicts are near illiterate.
Families and Children are badly affected, the cost in monetary terms to society is huge with the cost of thefts from businesses shops & homes, not to mention the cost of keeping someone in prison for a week.
The current system does not work!
E.g. Put an addict in prison, give them money when they are released, they immediately get more drugs more alcohol or both and the cycle starts over again.
A homeless person gets no benefits as they have no address.
If it wasn’t for the help of organisations that feed them they would starve. Leicester also needs a shelter for them.
Most addicts have a story to tell,
they have been abused as children and or adults have criminal records or no background in a working environment so to get a job is almost impossible.
There are government schemes that will put them back into the work place as part of their long term future and Stepping Stones will train them to a trade and help them with work.
To save the life of one addict will affect the lives of all the family for future generations.

The Stepping Stones Project is committed to providing men and women with the opportunity to overcome serious addictive problems and subsequently move forward to lead full and fulfilling lives by rebuilding relationships with their families through a structured residential self help rehabilitation programme.
